Annual Awards Banquet - March 18, 2012 at Maggianos in Englewood

You’re invited to the High Country Newfoundland Club Annual Banquet! It’s a wonderful Sunday Afternoon (doors open at 11:30, lunch at 12:00 noon) meal, a festive gathering of newfie lovers, and also a time to recognize all of the wonderful things our members do with their Newfoundlands throughout the year. The event is March 18th, at Maggiano’s in the Denver Tech Center.

Again, if you have earned a title with your newf during calendar year 2011, you are eligible for recognition that afternoon. Please see the linkis to help you submit your information for your awards: banquet reservation form, awards application and awards guidelines. The guidelines were revised in January 2011, so please be sure to take a look at them.

The HCNC Board has added a new option this year. If you would prefer, you can elect not to receive a physical award and can have the cost of the award donated to the HCNC Rescue Fund. Your accomplishment will still be mentioned in the award catalog and verbally recognized at the banquet. There is a box to check at the bottom of the awards application to choose this option.

Don't forget to send a picture along with your application. The picture should be of the dog receiving the award and can be anything you would like: a show picture, a title picture, or a fun, silly picture. The picture needs to be something that will convert to a black and white photo (it will be printed in the program in black and white).

As many of you may already know, our awards are handmade by a wonderful artist. Unfortunately, for us, she is going to be very busy this spring doing awards for many other events. Because of this the award requests must be to Pat Drew no later than January 31.

Cathy Sands has been appointed by the board to fill the remainder of the term vacated by Claudia Walters when she was appointed Vice President. Thanks, Cathy, for agreeing to fill this important position for the remainder of the term.

Nominating Committee Report

Per the bylaws, the President, Treasurer, two at large members are up for election this year. The nominating committee Diane Blandina (chairperson), Pat Drew, and Johanna Matsuda propose the following slate of candidates for positions for terms running 2012-2014.

President: Terri Desnica (incumbent) Greg Szynskie (candidate)

Treasurer: Maria Rizzuto (candidate)

Board at Large : Two positions - Patti Pigeon (incumbent); Bill Espander (candidate); Megan Goldin-Morrison (candidate)

In addition, if any club member is interested in running, according to our Bylaws: ".....any general member in good standing may submit a written petition to be included on the ballot for a position. This petition must be signed by a minimum of three members in good standing and must be submitted to the Nominating Committee Chair by February 15."

Since the slate of candidates includes opposed positions, there will be an election later this spring, as per the bylaws which state: “Elections shall be held annually and conducted by mail ballot for the positions as stated in item (2) of this section. Official ballots will be mailed by the Secretary at least fifteen (15) days prior to the date of the annual meeting to each member in good standing."

The annual meeting is held in the month May.

Minutes and Reports

The board of directors of HCNC has unanimously approved the distribution of the minutes to the membership electronically within 30 days of the previous meeting.
